Portable Appliance Testing is crucial to your company Health & Safety policies and according to the Health & Safety Executive, 25% of reportable electrical accidents involve portable appliances.

The law clearly states that all employers have a legal obligation to maintain all electrical equipment in order to ensure a safe working environment. This includes all electrically operated items such as computers, printers, photocopiers, kettles, extension leads, vacuums etc.

Organisations of all types and sizes have a duty to protect their employees and business from this risk and to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, The Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.

Safe Electric Limited offers a comprehensive on-site portable appliance testing service.

We carry out a through visual inspection of the appliance which includes checking for damage to the flex, plug casing, incorrect wiring and incorrectly rated fuse.

Then a comprehensive test is completed using the appropriate fully calibrated testing equipment.

Minor faults found during the course of the inspection will be repaired as we find them and the appliance re-tested. All minor repairs that are carried will incur a small charge, including the following:

  • Replacement of faulty or damaged mains plug (BS1363)
  • Replacement of damaged or incorrectly rated fuses
  • Re-wiring of incorrect connections in the mains plug
  • Repair to faulty cable grips in the mains plug
  • Minor repairs requiring less than ten minutes labour
  • Re-test following repair
  • All Appliances are labelled with the result of the test (pass or fail).
